“Everyone moved by the Spirit is a son of God”

Everyone moved by the Spirit is a son of God. The Spirit you received is not the spirit of slaves bringing fear into your lives again; it is the spirit of sons, and it makes us cry out ‘Abba, Father!’ The Spirit himself and our spirit bear united witness that we are children of God.  Romans 8:14-16

So far then we have seen that, through our Lord Jesus Christ, by faith we are judged righteous and at peace with God, since it is by faith and through Jesus that we have entered this state of grace in which we can boast about looking forward to God’s glory. But that is not all we can boast about; we can boast about our suffering. These sufferings brings patience, as we know, and patience brings perseverance, and perseverance brings hope, and this hope is not deceptive, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit which has been given us. We were still helpless when at His appointed moment Christ died for sinful men. It is not easy to die even for a good man–though of course for someone really worthy, a man might be prepared to die–but what proves that God loves us is that Christ died for us while we were still sinners. Having died to make us righteous, is it likely that He would now fail to save us from God’s anger?  When we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, we were still enemies; now that we have been reconciled surly we may count on being saved by the life of His Son?  Not merely because we have been reconciled but because we are filled with joyful trust in God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have already gained our reconciliation. Romans 5: 1-11

And if we are children we are heirs as well: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, sharing His sufferings so as to share His glory. I think that what we suffer in this life can never be compared to the glory, as yet unrevealed, which is waiting for us. The whole creation is eagerly waiting for God to reveal His sons. Romans 8: 17-19

The material world, created for man, shares his destiny. It was cursed for man’s sin (Gen.3:17), and is therefore now deformed: impotent and decadent.

It was not for any fault on the part of creation that it was made unable to attain its purpose, it was made so by God. From the beginning till now the entire creation, as we know, has been groaning in one great act of giving birth; and not only creation, but all of us who possess the first-fruit of the Spirit, we too groan inwardly as we wait for our bodies to be set free. For we must be content to hope that we shall be saved–but salvation is not in sight, we should not have to be hoping for it, if it were–but, as I say, we must hope to be saved since we are not saved yet–it is something we must wait for with patience. Rom. 8: 20-25

Only faith can guarantee the blessings that we hope for, or prove the existence of the realities that at present remain unseen. Hebrews 11:1

Since everything is coming to an end like this, you should be living holy and saintly lives while you wait and long for the Day of God to come, when the sky will dissolve in flames and the elements melt in the heat.  What we are waiting for is what He promised: the new heavens and new earth, the place where righteousness will be at home. So then, my friends, while you are waiting, do your best to live lives without spot or stain so that He will find you at peace. Think of our Lord’s patience as your opportunity to be saved: our brother Paul, who is so dear to us, told you this when he wrote to you with wisdom, that is his special gift. He always writes like this when he deals with this sort of subject, and this makes some points in his letter hard to understand; these are the points that uneducated and unbalanced people distort, in the same way as they distort the rest of Scripture–a fatal thing for them to do.  You have been warned about this, my friends; be careful not to get carried away by the errors of unprincipled people, from the firm ground that you are standing on. Instead, go on growing in the grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be glory, in time and in eternity. Amen. 2Peter 3:11-18

The Spirit too comes to help us in our weakness. For when we cannot choose words in order to pray properly, the Spirit himself expresses our plea in a way that could never be put into words, and God who knows everything in our hearts knows perfectly well what He means, and that the pleas of the saints expressed by the Spirit are according to the mind of God. Rom. 8:26-27

We know by turning everything to their good God co-operates with all those who love Him, with all those that He has called according to His purpose.  v.28

The evil you planned to do me has by God’s design been turned to good, that He might bring about, as indeed He has, the deliverance of a numerous people. So you need not be afraid; Gen. 50:20

They are the ones He chose specially long ago and intended to become true images of His Son, so that His Son might be the eldest of many brothers. He called those He intended for this; those He called He justified, and with those He justified He shared His glory. Rom. 8:29-30

After saying this, what can we add? With God on our side who can be against us? Since God did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up to benefit us all, we may be certain, after such a gift, that He will not refuse anything He can give. Could anyone accuse those that God has chosen? When God acquits, could anyone condemn? Could Christ Jesus? No! He not only died for us–He rosed from the dead, and there at God’s right hand He stands and pleads for us.  v. 31-34

Nothing therefore can come between us and the love of Christ, even if we are troubled or worried, or being persecuted, or lacking food or clothes, or being massacred daily, and reckoned as sheep for the slaughter. These are the trials trough which we triumph, by the power of Him who loved us. v. 35-37

For I am certain of this: neither death nor life, no angel, no prince, nothing that exists, nothing still to come, nor any power, or height or depth, nor any created thing, can ever come between us and the love of God made visible in Christ Jesus our Lord. v.38-39

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6

The Light (Goodness; the Word) cannot be imprisoned by Darkness (Evil; the powers of evil). The True Light, He which enlightens every man who comes into the world, was sent by the Father to perform a task, namely to deliver a message of salvation.

..who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. 1Peter 1:21
In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 1John 4:9
May Grace and truth be with you all. Godspeed

  1. Thank you Drgold for visiting, your kind words and the truth of the Holy Spirit. Your addition to the post is most welcome, bringing it back to why ‘everyone moved by the Spirit is a son of God’. Your ‘Sonship’ messages are inspirational, explaining this wonderful relationship in greater detail.
I cannot take credit for the words, I was inspired to put the theme together, but most of the words come from The Jerusalem Bible (Copyright 1966 by Darton, Longman & Todd, Ltd. and Doubleday & Company, Inc.). I highly recommend this Bible and its form of expression. The words come alive and penetrate the senses in such a way that the reader is captivated to continue to read. It’s been a blessing throughout my journey in my relationship with our Lord.
I use many different versions of Scripture in my quest for truth, many times quoting them directly, comparing them to one another, etc. The Jerusalem Bible is my main one. I read and use it often I need to have it re-bind/bound. God bless my friend.
May our Lord continue to open the eyes to His truth. Godspeed

  2. Dear Sweet Java

Excellent, so articulately expressed, and so very true.. ‘Everyone moved by the Spirit is a son of God’. Without the Holy Spirit working in our lives, we cannot succeed in God’s ‘eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord’ Ep3:11, which include our coming sanctification 2Th2:13 and glorification Ro8:30.
