Our Advocate

John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

John 14:9-31 TJB
‘Have I been with you all this time, Phillip,’ said Jesus to him, ‘and you still do not know me? ‘To have seen Me is to have seen the Father, so how can you say, “Let us see the Father”?

Do you not believe Me
that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?

The words I say to you I do not speak as from myself:  it is the Father, living in me, who is doing this work. You must believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; believe it on the evidence of this work, if for no other reason.

I tell you most solemnly, whoever believes in Me will perform the same works as I do myself, he will perform even greater works, because I am going to the Father.

Christ brought revelation and salvation; His miracles were ‘signs’ of these things, (Jn 2:11+). The ‘works’ of the disciples will continue this ministry. The Spirit, from whom mighty works will proceed, is to be sent by Jesus seated in glory at the Father’s right hand, (Jn 7:39; 16:7). And not only to the first disciples but to all who believe and keep His word.

Whatever you ask for in My Name I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask for anything in My Name, I will do it. If you love Me you will keep my commandments.

Keep My commandments‘. Jesus, like God Himself, asserts His right to love and obedience. Love and obedience go to together in the ten commandments God established. The first four are about the love and worship of the Father Himself – have no other gods before Him; make no craved images of any kind from the outskirts of the universe to the deepest oceans and everything in between and worship it, bowing down to statues that can’t talk, walk, break easily are not substitutes, but take away His Presence in favor of a stone (or other) imitations. He alone is to be worshiped. Another one is to not take/use His Name in vain, His Name is powerful to misuse it carelessly with no respect; #4 is remember His Sabbath, the day He declared holy, the day He finished creation and declared it very good, a day of rest, a gift to enjoy and remember His handiwork. A day in God’s calendar is from sundown to sundown = one day; “Following Jewish tradition, the Bible is quite explicit that God rested on the seventh day of Creation, which formed the basis for the Sabbath, the day of rest.”

The other six are loving one’s neighbor (parents, brother, friend, foe); honor father and mother, our parents gave birth to us- if for no other reason then this, we should be grateful and respect them. Some parents are not worthy of this honor but God honor those who obey by giving a promise of long life to this commandment. Not become like them with no shame for their mistreatment of their own flesh & blood. Let their guilt of shame fall on their heads not be a guilt in our own. In this we show the Spirit of love, forgiveness and honoring our Heavenly Father. The others are not committing murder; adultery or any sexual misconduct; stealing; bearing false witness (lying); nor covet others belongings, (paraphrasing Exodus 20).

Ex 20:20  And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.”

I shall ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you for ever, that Spirit of Truth,

It is difficult to choose between the possible meanings: ‘advocate’, ‘intercessor’, ‘counsellor’, protector’, ‘support’. The parallel between the Spirit’s work for the disciples and Christ’s brings out powerfully the personal character of the Spirit, (Jn 14:26 ; 1 Jn 2:1). The personal relationship one has with Jesus is enhance through faith and getting to know His word.

whom the world can never receive since it neither sees nor knows Him; but you know Him, because He is with you, He is in you.

I will not leave you orphans; I will come back to you. In a short time the world will no longer see Me; but you will see Me, because I live and you will live

The (old) world has seen its last of Jesus, He’s been crucified and buried. (Jn 7:34 ; Jn 8:21), The disciples, however, will see Him in His risen life, not merely with their eyes but with the inward vision of faith.

John 20:29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.

And not just believe for the evil one himself believes God is real but likes distorting His Sovereignty, His truth.

On that day you will understand that I Am in my Father and you in Me and I in you.

John 10:30 I and My Father are one.”   John 17:11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.

Anybody who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I shall love him and show Myself to him.

Judas (brother of James) –this was not Judas Iscariot– said to him.’ Lord, what is all this about? Do You intend to show Yourself to us and not to the world?” Jesus replied:

‘If anyone loves Me he will keep my word, (unfortunately not all the world does), and My Father will love him, and We shall come to him and make our home with him. Those who do not love Me do not keep My words. And My word is not My own: it is the word of the One who sent Me. I have said these things to you while still with you; but the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will sent in My Name, will teach you everything and remind you of all I have said to you.

Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you, a peace the world cannot give, this is My gift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard Me say: I am going away, and shall return. If you loved Me you would have been glad to know that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. I have told you this now before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe. I shall not talk with you any longer, because the prince of this world is on his way. He has no power over Me, but the world must be brought to know that I love the Father and that I am doing exactly what the Father told Me. Come now, let us go. John 14:21-31 TJB

The true vine we cling to, are grafted on if not already part of. We bear His fruits through the gift of His Spirit IN us. For in place of the departed Christ, the faithful will have the Spirit (Jn 14:16 ; 16:7 ; John 1:33+). He is the Advocate who intercedes with the Father. All three working as One. We come to the Father by the death and resurrection of Jesus, He is the only way, the truth and life itself (14:6), and has not left us to fend for ourselves. But given us His strength, His assurance, in Him we trust. As all the followers before us walked with God, we must do no less. As the Patriarchs had His power, as the disciples also received His power so will all who truly belong to Him. The time is upon us when God is giving His Spirit abundantly to all who wish to know Him, to carry His message to the ends of the world.

1 John 2:1-6 CEB My little children, I’m writing these things to you so that you don’t sin. But if you do sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one.  He is God’s way of dealing with our sins, not only ours but the sins of the whole world.  This is how we know that we know Him: if we keep his commandments.  The one who claims, “I know Him,” while not keeping His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in this person.  But the love of God is truly perfected in whoever keeps His word. This is how we know we are in Him.  The one who claims to remain in Him ought to live in the same way as He lived.

He is the Spirit of truth, leading men to the very fullness of truth, teaching them to understand the mystery of Christ — his fulfillment of the Scriptures (Jn 5:29+), the meaning of His words (Jn 2:19+), of His actions, and His ‘signs’ (14:26 ; 15:13 ; 1 Jn 2:20, 27), all once obscure to the disciples (Jn 2:22 ; 12:16; 13:7; 20:9 ). In this way the Spirit is to bear witness to Christ, (15:26; 1 Jn 5:6-7), and shame the unbelieving world (Jn 16:8-11). The Messiah gives happiness, sound of mind and deliverance to all those who trust and believe, who worship and obey Him. With the evil one roaming the streets to devour we must keep our heads above, and at peace even in the chaos of the evil around us. Just as on the day of Pentecost God gave His true believers power and truth He gives to all who truly believe in Him.

I believe a revival of the day of Pentecost will once again shine ever brightly in power in every follower of Christ. As He gave His first disciples power to preach, heal, speak in foreign tongue to understand languages (see Acts 2), and relate to individuals in their own tongue, He will also bestow on today’s followers. I believe we will go through the tribulation period and the power of His Spirit (just as it was granted to followers of the past [especially the Pentecost followers]) will be upon all those who are sealed with His blood. We are His lampstands, we are His olive trees. We are His two witnesses (both Jew and Gentile) empowered with His Spirit for the world to see God’s glory in us and come to repentance. Unfortunately, only a few will truly understand and believe while the world as a whole will not.

Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.

The Advocate is pleading our case in the heavenly courts and His Spirit is beseeching our hearts here on earth. To follow His lead and never let go!

Thank you for visiting 🙂 Blessings always!

My prayer is for you to come to the full understanding of God the Father and the gift both the Father and Son entrust to us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    1. Thank you.
God tells us to forgive the person.

As we get more in tune with the Scriptures’, a bit older, wiser (hopefully), we realize each of us choose the coarse we follow either by our circumstances, our environment, our early foundations or because of them. Whether those experiences were good or not, it makes us who we are. All of it plays a role in future connections or lack of, in how we behave or act. Somehow through these we either sink or swim. Are honorable or not. Each of us handles life’s inconsistencies differently. Unfortunate some not at all and lash out at the very people they ‘fess to love. Once we realize this we change.

But all of us are still God’s children.
We all are guilty of something, we all need help. Some come to the realization to change and some don’t. Our parents are not exempt.
I kinda think our Lord knew this by giving this commandment a special gift of longevity to one’s life, when followed through.
And as Scripture also tells us ‘everyone will get their just deserve’, a reward into the banquet of life, or the judgment seat. Hopefully the former not the latter.
So yes, let’s honor our parents, even if it’s at a distance. And thereby honoring God.

Thank you for your comment. Blessings always!
