Peter speaking words of wisdom

As i was praying and asking the Lord to guide my study He led me to 1 Peter 4…

NKJV Therefore since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.

For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles–when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.  They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead (spiritually), that they might be judge according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.

If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.

But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people’s matters. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter. For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?

Now “If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?”  Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator. (end of chapter four)

*******************

What He was telling me, as my heart was asking but my brain was not articulating it was, do not be dismay when trials happen but go through them with patience and endurance, with the assurance you will come out of it better for having gone through them; as painful as it may be, keep the faith. Always keep Christ in my heart and mind imitating His conduct in the face of adversity, not to give up when things get rough, but stand up to truth. “Think of what Jesus suffered in this life, and then arm yourselves with the same resolution that He had“: ‘anyone who in this life has bodily suffering’ for truth, be it verbally or physical ‘has broken with sin’, because for the rest of his life on earth he is not ruled by human passions but only by the will of God, by love. His Spirit in us.

Some will not understand why you’ve refrained from certain activities, from the flood that destroys the good in you. The Gospel is true, do not become spiritually dead, but be calm and vigilant, unloading all worries on to Him since He is looking after you. It wont be long now. The world does not recognize the season it is in, prophecy is fulfilling in front of us and the Word is accessible in just about every part of the world.

Unfortunately the technology will also be used for evil as we approach the end of this earthly drama and satan’s rule. With Christ in your heart, His armor on: ‘the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness– honor, virtue, fairness, goodness, goodwill, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, and the sword of the Spirit’ (Ephesians 6:10-20), “the Word”, will protect your spirit if not always your body. Know that some of you will be martyr for the cause of righteousness but ‘fear not they can kill the body but not the spirit within’ (paraphrasing Matthew 10:28). The power that lifted Jesus from the grave is the same power that will raise you as well. Rejoice then in knowing God’s got your back. Glory to Him!

Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. For

"He who would love life
 And see good days,
Let him refrain his tongue from evil,
And his lips from speaking deceit.
Let him turn away from evil and do good;
Let him seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
And His ears are open to their prayer;
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.' 1 Peter3:8-12

Be blessed as you meet the challenges facing us with grace, knowing our Redeemer is at the door. Be strong in your convictions, any weakness will give entry to doubt and doubt is our enemy. Instead put on Christ!

Thank you for visiting 🙂

Always looking up!

  1. LCB, thank you for your timely post. You wrote, “What He was telling me, as my heart was asking but my brain was not articulating it was, do not be dismay when trials happen but go through them with patience and endurance, with the assurance you will come out of it better for having gone through them; as painful as it may be, keep the faith.”

Satan was a liar and a murder from the beginning. This last week a total stranger attacked me on a crowded beach on the 4th of July, screaming at me at the top of his lungs with false accusations. The Lord reminded me that a soft reply turns away wrath. I am sure he was hoping that I would retaliate in some way, but I just prayed for him as he carried on for about five minutes. I finally saw that there was no reasoning with him and turned and walked away.

He was projecting a spirit of fear and murder and every time I was troubled in my thoughts about him after that I prayed for his salvation. The more I prayed for him the more peace I found. Jesus said,

“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you… But love your enemies… and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.” (Luke 6:27-36, ESV)

God allows these experiences that we might grow in the love of Christ, but when we react in kind we fail the lesson. May Jesus continue to bless you with His love, mercy and wisdom, dear sister,
    Michael

    1. All glory to God!
And thank you for your kind words. Thank you also for adding your experience as awful as it was, you glorified God in the process by your actions. My prayers go to you for healing of the verbal abuse you withstood without provocation, on our national patriotic holiday, where ‘freedom’ is celebrated. Where men and women died so these individual can spew out their hatred, ‘in the name of tolerance’. Like our Lord, you responded in the Spirit given you. You showed you ‘live according to God’s will’, as hard as it was when faced with a disgruntled fellow. I applaud you!
I’m sure he was befuddled and bewildered by your reaction in blessing him with prayer, with your calmness and tolerance. And when reasoning failed best to walk away. I too, walk away from the keg of dynamite ready to explode at the least provocation, situations that pop up unexpectedly. Needing to regroup my thoughts, staying true to our Lord. Showing restraint and the love of God is in you to the people witnessing the tirade. The spirit of negativity was deeply rooted in this man to attack you in a public place. But that’s how satan works, to have you publicly deny the goodness in you. Wondering what you did to have satan use this minion to try to rattle you..?.. God’s grace was in you my friend, as full as this man’s negative one.

It amazes me (and then again ‘no’ for the times we are living in), how people scream “tolerance” when it suits them, when they want to be recognized, or at their convenience, and yet give none. Reasoning our differences is not in their vocabulary. It seems tolerance is a one way street, theirs only, our beliefs and opinions are not valid if it doesn’t align with theirs. Fuddy- duah-ddy, we are not all cookie cutters, made from the same mold or robots, we all have our own thoughts and experiences. But just because God has been taken out of everything these days gives them the right to behave like animals. And I apologize for offending the animal kingdom. Where has our intelligence taken us..?.. when we can’t seem to agree to disagree… This is the reality of the utopia they want to insinuate with the guise of peace. God help us.

I too agree with you, we show our beliefs with our person, by our actions and mannerism, having the same resolves our Lord Jesus showed to both believer and non-believer. When words doesn’t seem to penetrate the harden heart, we pray for them. A bright and shiny jewel is added to your crown Michael, by your calmness in the face of adversity. Showing by example who you belong to. The Lord is cleaning house and refining His children for bigger battles.

I can understand the sting you still feel when recollecting the false accusation. We’re only human, yet you suffered as a soldier of God, a Christian not ashamed to publicly pray for this confused individual. He unfortunately, not knowing Christ personally continued, but in you walking away you showed who the bigger man was, before it got physical. He might of thought you showed weakness, You actually showed strength and true tolerance. You were ruled not by your passion to retaliate but by the will of God living in you. And in our regrouping and prayer He gives us peace of mind, peace in our heart, the peace we seek within to be able to march on. We are not to return evil for evil but show compassion and love for their misunderstandings. Loving those who hate us. “God allows these experiences that we might grow in the love of Christ, but when we react in kind we fail the lesson.”, so true.

As I mentioned, the world is not aware of the late season it is in. However, through individuals who show restraint and God’s love, God blesses abundantly to keep moving forward til His return. Slowly people are waking up to the realities of how far we’ve derailed from our Christian values. Through our actions that speak louder than words, a calm spirit wins over the staunches person, most times. If not, best to walk away before you’re caught up in its snare. Prayers are most definitely needed for all humanity.

Again my prayers are with you. Stay strong in your convictions, God is smiling down on you, my brother in Christ. Be blessed always 🙂 A

      1. A funny thing happened yesterday morning. As I was sitting with a brother in the local Denny’s restaurant I noticed this guy about two booths away kept looking at me with an inquisitive look on his face. It was him! He was there with his wife and another couple. They finally got up and left before we did. All I could feel was compassion for him and his family and he is still in my prayers. Thank you for you prayers and encouraging words, dear sister.

      2. Amen. Prayers are powerful, a calming balm to our souls. Our God is awesome! Life has its challenges but Christ IS on our side, putting Him in front of us in everything we do and are confronted with, He gives us the strength and grace we need to move forward. Be blessed always.

I too, thank you for your prayers and understanding, my brother. May peace continue to follow you. 🕊😇

  2. This is such strong advice…“Think of what Jesus suffered in this life, and then arm yourselves with the same resolution that He had.” Too often people are given the impression that the Christian life is one that is easy, has no challenges, and where everything goes well for you. (Now that you’re God’s friend, he is going to give you lots of great things in life that other people don’t get, in other words.) I think instead, the Christian life is more about being conformed to the image of Christ, or as you put it, “having the same resolution that He had”!

    1. Exactly, I agree with you. And thank you for the additional thought.
We seem to want the accolades (aka the blessings), without the work. It works hand in hand. Not that works will save you, only having Christ in our heart will. We need to be demonstrating His love by our actions our beliefs. We are asked to imitate our Lord, He was not idle, He comported His life around the Father’s will. With the Father’s strength to overcome the trials this world brings. And died to show us who truly is the enemy, sin/rebellion. His Spirit is given to anyone who accepts Him and this challenge. To let go of our fleshy desires and gain life. This is not the world He envisioned, but needs to be played out. And like any play it has an ending and it ends well for all who puts on Christ (has His Spirit in them). He never said it would be easy, only that He’ll be right there with you opening a path of clarity, truth, the strength to hang on to this truth til His return. So we too can be where He is, for He IS risen and at the right hand of the Father, advocating for us. How glorious is that!
But first we have to go through the perplexities this life brings, staying true to Him. His gospel, His commandments, His mannerism, kindness. Loving Him above everything else and loving our neighbor.

He gave us life, Satan stole it with lies and gives us death, Jesus redeemed us back. However, it is up to us and our freewill to keep it with His help or forfeit it for temporary trinkets this world offers. We can’t be lukewarm. We must choose and arm ourselves with the same resolution Jesus showed.

Scripture is our manual. It tells us in the latter days people will be lovers of self rather than lovers of God. How true is that in this current generation we live in. Forgotten is the Sovereignty of God, the reverence owed Him, true love is missing for who He IS. We seem to take Him for granted, as you point out, when things are well and in the pulpit when not. Yet in between we do as we please (this is being lukewarm). Sadly as years go by this is more apparent to me, as Scripture’s also warns. Upon my baptism my Pastor told me, the battle now begins, stay close to Christ. For the enemy is on the prowl to snatch you to the dark side. He knows keeping us un-informed, erasing everything about Christ and God will lead to our demise. Ultimately that’s what he wants for us humans, including his human agents. He is a liar there’s no truth in him! Christ is asking to come out of the darkness into His light.
Yes, it’s more ‘about being conformed to the image of Christ’, letting His Spirit be part of our life from this day forward, and every day. Always in prayer, acknowledging His Sovereignty.
His gift is free and leads to eternal life. It isn’t easy but nothing worth having ever is. We are only human with frailties but keeping our focus on Christ we overcome.

Thank you again. May God continue to give us clarity to stand for truth. Be blessed my friend.

      1. Love this sentence…“He never said it would be easy, only that He’ll be right there with you opening a path of clarity, truth, the strength to hang on to this truth til His return.” That has definitely been my experience. Thanks again!

      2. “For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin.”(Heb 12:3-4, NKJV). It seems that as this world becomes more and more evil and insane, we will be given many chances to grow in His love if we refuse to react in kind as Jesus did.

      3. I believe it too. We are given His power to do the right thing. To hang on and not give up in a world that has abandon true love, truth. It will hurt just as it hurt our Lord. But He overcame so we can too. And is seated with the Father, advocating for us. So we too at the appointed hour can be with Him.

Always looking up with faith in our hearts. Many blessings to you and yours.
